Instrument Cluster always on?

Recently purchased an 01 Boxster. The instrument panel always stays on. Not the backlights from when the lights are on, but the clock, odometer, speedometer LCD displays are always on.

Is that normal?

Thanks,
Pat

The cluster will show the odometer reading and clock when the car is shut down but the car has not been locked yet. Lock the car and it will all go dark.

Those 3 lights that you are talking about stay on for a couple of minutes after you turn the car off. It's normal. How long after you shut the car off are they staying on for?

My '99 did this way back in 2004. If the cluster numerics stay on for a really long time, even after locking the car, you might have a failing ignition switch.

They stayed on permanently reguardless if the car was locked or unlocked for some reason. I disconnected the battery and let the car site for about 30 minutes and then reconnected it. It seems to be working properly now. No idea what went wrong or why that fixed it but as an IT guy rebooting is always a good option.

Thanks for letting me know how they normally function.
