Axle Boots?

My mechanic was installing new tires on my Boxster and noticed what he called the axle boots dried and split. He indicated that the boots would cost $500 or $600 apiece. I haven't been able to find any referece to an axle boot but a lot on CV boots. Could this be what he is referring too? I don't think a CV boot would cost any where near the price he quoted and then labor on top of that. I've used this guy before for work on my other vehicles and he is resonalble and fair.

It better had not be the CV Boots for that price. Mine is in the shop as I type getting them replaced. One had a split found on the PPI so I decided to just replace all four.

Total Quote for all four: $450

Includes axles

The price includes the axles also. I checked my shop manual and it indicates that if the boots are split and joints dry the axle is to be replaced and that was my case.

If you are replacing the halfshafts that actually does sound about right. Typical Gemran non cheap parts and a decent amount of annoying, messy labor.

Sorry guy
