TOD Day One Pix!!!

I'm here with a half-dozen forum members enjoying the Tail Of The Dragon and surrounding roads... even though we're driving them in the rain today.

Here's some pictures of the trip thus far... The last one is of bmussatti's white 986. All of our cars are a mess after carving up the twisties around here in the rain, so it's not just bmussatti who didn't wash his car. And whoever said white hides dirt is nuts!

We ate breakfast together early, ran the dragon one time up and another time down, took a break (mostly for me to get over my self-induced nausea, believe it or not!) and then drove the Cheohala Skyway... which turned into creeping over the top of mountain hoping not to hit anything as the fog was so dense. Thank God for the rear fog lamps! We really used them to see one another.

Tonight will be a fun time of dinner together. I'll take more pix and post them tomorrow morning here...

Nice pictures Randall. See you at 6 for the cookout here at the motel.
Looks like the rain has let for the time being.

I grew up in Knoxville. Never realized how lucky I was to be that close to the Smokey's and all they offer. Absolutely beautiful country. Used to drive the Dragon without even knowing what it was!

Hey Randall-

I'm bitter we didin't catch up with you guys. We definitely saw enough Mini Coopers.

Tried to get you via cell phone, but obviously little/no service up there in the mountains.

My buddy and I are already thinking of planning another trip later in the year or next year when we can et up there with good weather.

I have some pics/videos of running the dragon if anyone wants to PM me, I'll forward on a few of them.

According to one of the Cooper forums, they had 476 cars attending from 5/3-5/6.

I'll get the videos up somewhere, but probably won't have the time until at least this weekend.

Outstanding! You got a good shot of mine on the road all by its lonesome. For a second, I thought my brake lights were on, but thank goodness it was just the fog light. I tried my best not to use the brakes...

DJ, the weather was great. Learned a lot about our Boxster and how they handle in the rain/wet roads on Saturday. Sunday was perfect. And Monday was even better.

The Minis had a big to do...476 cars, according to a link someone else posted. There was one in front of us Saturday morning heading northbound on the Tail...he pulled over and let us by.

we saw mini's here and there, but frankly, they were all together a good ten miles away at Fontana Village and we weren't bothered by them.

Funny how a mini tried to keep up with me on the dragon and after five minutes of watching him nearly kill himself and his wife in the passenger seat getting upset, screaming at him (I read her lips once or twice through the rear view mirror) and an awful amount of tire squeal, he pulled over before the run was finished.

I think his wife needed to hurl at the side of the road

And it wouldn't surpise me if he got out to inspect his tiny little tires.
