"Not to bash the Minis but....we ran into an owner at the inn where we we staying. As he eyed the boxster, he turned to my wife and actually said, " yeah that's a nice car. You could beat me in a straight line but you can't beat me in the curves."

My wife said, "have you ever driven a boxster?"

He said, "yes, they're a fun car but a mini will beat a boxster every time in the curves. You can accelerate in the curves in a mini!"

I walked away shaking my head......"

Well, there's bound to be an a-hole or two in groups. Some of them even drive Porsche. *L* I found this an interesting thread, though -- something I doubt would ever appear in a Porsche forum:

The Fast and the Frivolous

Okay, just caught the tail end of "Fast and Furious" on HBO. I can only imagine that day 2 on the TOD was JUST like the race scene in the end...as a matter of fact, I could swear that scene was filmed on the Tail, well, except there was more run off room in the movie.
Seems to me that one could go faster if one's tires were actually sticking to the road instead of spinning and slithering back and forth amidst billowing clouds of smoke...but then, I can't drift, so what do I know?

Tom, it's good to see you here on the 986forum! Posting that pic of your car on the side of a mountain in a heap should really give us all pause to consider how greatful we should be!

For the rest of you, let me repeat my little spinned Talladega Nights prayer as we went driving, "Dear Baby Jesus, I'd like to thank you for pavement and the man who invented pavement and ..."

I had never heard of this until joining the forum. Is there a time of year (worth it weather wise) to go when there are not a gazillion idiots racing this thing?

Some friends and myself just want to go, enjoy the roads take pics, not like the mini forum stuff.

Don't forget the "do these diffusers make my butt look big?" or "I have my mother's (or was it grandmother's?) hips"...

SC986, I tell ya, we were there on a very busy weekend with almost 500 mini's. It rained all day on Saturday. And I still had the time-of-my-life! So, I say go anytime that you can.

The place we stayed was great too- The Two Wheel Inn. Very clean and the owners (Linda & Barry) live on-site. They are building a new unit for people with cars, that will have their own private garage space per room.

speaking of good photos...

Got the new issue of Motorcyclist today....there's a big spread on Killboy pics of bikes crashing on the Tail. Ouch. I've been telling everyone that I know I can do that road faster in my Box than on my 10R...I'm almost afraid to try it on the bike!

Here is a picture of a few of the Mini drivers that we met during the TOD. They drive little cars...but they are huge drinkers!!

Zee Photo had a couple of shots of me on the dragon with my nice, shiny and clean boxster (none of the other drivers in our bunch got up early to wash cars like I did)...

Nice picture, Randall ! I ordered mine last week...

You did miss me, Sammy, and bmuss washing our cars Sunday afternoon after you left for Alabama. We had quite an assembly line going, taking turns wetting, soaping, and rinsing

Nick

Randall, how do you "lift" that photo off their web site? I ordered pictures both from Zeefoto and Killboy.

Sorry, Randall. I just got my disk about 20 minutes ago. That was fast. Their web-site said it would be 3 weeks.
