To Badge or Not to Badge ???

Need your help, guys ( and gals )

I took my Boxster badge off the trunk last weekend and I can’t decide if I like it or not

Should I :

1. Leave it off
2. Put it back on
3. Put on “986” instead

Thanks for your opinions…

Nick

I would vote for the black 986 from bumper plugs...

I think that would look excellent tucked under the spoiler.

I am going with the Chrome Boxster S for my deck lid..

I dont like the looks of the deck lid without the nameplates at least on my

particular vehicle.

Without the spoiler, I'd say replace it.

With the spoiler shown, I'd go with the 986!

Show us the pic when the decision is in place.

I would be careful on trying to remove it. I tried on my 99' and it a very small piece of paint from underneath came off as well,so I order a new 'Boxster' emblem and re-installed. On top of the small paint chip,it looked like the paint had faded some and it had a 'Boxster' on it,I actually kinda liked it though. Just something to consider.

How about some pics from those of you who have switched to "986"? I'm on the fence too, and can't visualize it. Pics would be helpful.. Thanks!

IMHO, I don't if its because of the long racing history but,

1-all Porsches should have a hood crest
2-all Porsches should have a rear badge

debadged cars look great when they are BMWs, Mercs, Imports, etc. but Porsche is its own category, kinda like Ferrari.

Go Badgeless for awhile and see

I have been debating the same thing. I like the Boxster S badge on but it gets in the way when I wax the trunk. You have to be careful not to get your cloth caught on the badge and clean any wax/polish residue out of the badge lest it dry there and look like Crap. I think I'll try it off for a while and then get a "986" badge. By the way, who sells the 986 badges?

What's in a name....

The name Porsche "Boxster" to me sounds stupid. I know I'm going to get allot of flack for saying this, but the name of the car should have been the new Porsche Spyder. Just because it has a "Boxer" designed engine and it's has the race inspired "Speedster" convertable top Porsche decided to combine the names to come up with BOXSTER. Lets face it, the car was originally introduced as a redo/retro remake of the classic 550 Spyder. Just because Porsche uses the "Spyder" name badge ONLY on their LeMans seriers race car that's been around for years doesn't mean they shouldn't have used it on the manufactured and produced street 986. In fact, when the aniversary eddition came out, they even put a numbered plate on the interior that says "550 Spyder" eddition. It's on the center console. So I preffer the 986 emblem. It's our model and just sounds better than Boxster. Spyder would have been better. RUF has their own version of the 987, called the RK Spyder. It's a heavily modified 987 with a turbo. They re-badge the rear deck lid and put a RK Spyder decal on it. Enough said.

With your oversized spoiler, I'm in the "986" camp. It's kind of like the way that the giant wing + small "GT3" works to nice visual affect on that 911 variant...well sorta.

what I did for the 986 badge was buy the 968 badge, which looks like the same font as the boxster script.....since the numbers are not connected to each other, just switch the 6 and 8 and there you go!

^yup that's what the bumperplugs guy did with my $80 set I'm sure..
If you stop by Peboys or Autozone they have duplicolor spray kits, primer for plastic surfaces, maybe a nice red or silver and then a clear coat for plastics as well.

unlike pecivil, i ordered 986 badge and received 968 badge. i guess some places just sell 968 badges as 986s. i would have actually installed it as 968 if i didn't check the numbers carefully first. but very easy swap as pecivil says.

Yes, that's because there is no official 986, IT IS a 968 badge re-arranged. It comes as 968 no matter where you order it from. I got mine from bumperplugs but it did not cost $80.00!?! More like $26.00 plus shipping. Egle Day also sells then for a dollar more. Here is there web site.

it was $80 because bumperplugs charged me $60 to paint the 986 seal grey and the S in factory red.
I was looking for a custom metalic 'gun metal' color but he coudln't do it.
