Do you have to remove the door panel inorder to get the armrest off?

No. Just lift the door bin cover, and you will see a front and rear hinge. Use a paper clip and just push out the plastic rods in the hinges and pull them out with a needle nosed plier. On the rear hinge, there's a spring. Remove this first before pulling off the door bin cover. That's it.

make sure to look at how spring is attached. putting it back is a bit more tricky than removing them.
