Rear Speakers

Thought that I would pass along that I installed the rear speaker kit I purchased from Harvey over the weekend. It was really a breeze with the instructions from here and Harvey. I previously had purchased the radio keys else where but was surprised Harvey includes a set with the kit…nice touch! I did chose to run the wiring harness through the middle of the car (under the carpet) and found this to be quick and effective.

I used the head unit amp to run the rears and it does add to the over all sound but like Burg Boxster suggested to me the six channel amp is probably the way to go so I will be looking on Ebay for one in the future.

PS... 500 hundred miles sense AOS replacment and car is running fine

I did the 4-channel to 6-channel amp swap and was actually quite disappointed by the result, I was hoping for much more umphhhh

However, in case you want to do it anyways, Harvey also sells a kit (for a very reasonable price) which allows you to connect your existing speaker cable (to the rear speakers) to the 6-channel amp - highly recommended.

I'd agree with ChrisZang, the upgrade to a 6ch amplifier was not worth the effort. However, if you haven't done so already go ahead and upgrade the dash and door speakers.

Whats with the obsession with Harvey's rear speaker set? I'm sure they're good speakers, but for a lot less than what he charges you can get the oem rear grills from sunset and replace the speakers with some infinity 32cfs.

I agree with ChrisZang & stjoh. I have the 6-channel amp as well and expected more. I never listened to my PNP speakers without the 6-channel amp, so maybe it is noticeably better and I just don't realize it.

Dusty,

If you (or anyone else) want to save $8, I have an extra conversion cable needed to plug the rear spkrs into the 6x40 amp. I bought one from Harvey couple of wks ago and then found my OEM kit came with one (when I installed last yr I didn't know what it was for). I'll sell my extra for $10. It is for a HAES, non-DSP amp. Be sure you know which amp you need. There are three: HAES, HAES w/DSP, and BOSE.

Also, when you are looking at fleabay you will see LA Dismantlers list several 996 6x40 amps. They have a Buy It Now Price and a Make Offer button. Let me save you some time. They will reject any offer unless it matches the BIN price. What a joke.
