Yeaah, you need to hold the button for about 3 seconds even after the top is fully opened or closed. I think the motor needs a few seconds to settle and then the light will go off. You should be fine.
FYI, you have to hold the button down afew more seconds longer after the top has reached the windshield because you must allow the clamshell to close...which is the last step in the convertible top raising and lowering process.
