CDR-220 Issue???

Just picked up an '02 Boxster S with 24000 miles and all I can say is what a car. This car puts my '04 Z4 to shame in so many ways with the exception of the stereo. Very weak but that was not a decsion factor in moving to the Boxster. Although you must have tunes for a good top down drive.

One thing I noticed is that when I listen to the radio both dash speakers work yet, when I listen to a CD only the driver side speaker works. To me that rules out a connection issue so would y'all say the head unit is bad?

Hi,

Could be anything. But, first things first. Remove the Faceplate and using a Q-Tip and some Rubbing Alcohol, clean all the contacts on both the Faceplate and the HU. This clears up so many issues with the Porsche Radios, it's the first thing anyone should do...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

If the car is not equipped with rear speakers and the Fader is set all the way to the rear in CD Mode then you will only hear the drivers and not the dash. Check the Fader. This will vary from mode to mode. CD, CDC, FM1, FM2, AM all have independent settings. Check each one individually.

Hope this helps.

James

Def recommend cleaning the contacts and checking the fader/balance controls. Also, try a different CD if you havent already. If all else fails, and your head unit is in fact, bad, I have a 6 month old refurbed one for available for sale.

CJ

I think the CR23 uses the fiber optic cables Porsche starting putting into its cars in 2003.

The CDR-220 was the latest non-MOST bus CD player, wich changer input and aux (iPod) input. Let me know if you're in need of one as I just pulled my recently refurbed one out.
