I think those prices are for brand new motors w/o using your old one for a core. I seem to recall reading somewhere (tho it may just be wishful thinking) that getting a remanufactured crate motor from Porsche and turning in your old engine for a core was much cheaper. Of course that means you are stuck with the same displacement as your old engine if you did it that way.

I agree with Randall you can always find a good low-mileage engine out of a salvaged car for much less. That is what I did when I had my 3.4 conversion done.
