Muffler

I bought a 1999 986 a few months ago and it is time to replace the muffler. The kid I bought it from put some awful one and the drone is just terrible. Any suggestions? I have been leaning towards the dansk oe sport muffler but I am worried the sound will be underwhelming. Just looking for a good sporty sound that is loud but not obnoxious with no drone. Any advice would be appreciated.

I tried a few including the FabSpeed which droned so much I sold it within a week for a loss. I ended up buying the Brombacher sound version from FVD.net and it is perfect. tame at cruise and comes alive when you get on it. Absolutely no drone, a bit pricey but worth it.

I just posted my experience with a used 986.2 muffler in the general section. Supposedly the baffling inside is a little different than the 986.1 version. Anyway I really like. It was $380 shipped to my door from eBay.

From what I’ve read, the S and base mufflers are the same for the 986.2, just different tips.

Exhaust Option

I had a cat back Fabspeed system installed on my 08 Cayman S but the drone was just too punishing. I then switched to the GT Carnewal system and it’s absolutely perfect. Great sound and no drone. Much more affordable than most of the high-end systems. The owner is a fantastic person to work with. Check out the website.
