Feeler: 01 S engine

This is more of a preliminary post but also a for sale ad. I have an 01 Boxster S that the engine will be getting removed in the next couple of weeks. Checking to see if there is any interest in buying it. Also what information would you like to know to consider purchase. I was thinking around $2500 for it buyer pays actual shipping. This price is guestimate based on ebay values and you can let me know if it is out of range. The engine has roughly 145K miles on it, bought the car as a restoration project not long ago and have zero service history. The car ran and drove fine however it is getting a check up from a mechanic prior to engine removal so i will have any additional information after that.

Exclamation

Rpetrecz, you might think twice before attempting such a retrofit. I recently purchased a 90,000 mile 2001 Boxster S for $3,500 after the owner spent 4 years and $20,000 trying to make work a 2004 to 2001 retrofit.
The owner before him discovered an oil-water intermix problem, and was convinced, purportedly by a Porsche dealership service department, that he needed an entirely-new engine. Faced with the crushing price quote, he sold it at a low price.
The next owner, completely new to Boxsters, concluded it would be cheaper just to swap the engine for a used 3.2 engine, which he purchased on a large online auction site.
After several misadventures with local indies, he finally recognized the subtle differences in the engine management systems. By then, the engine seller refused to take it back. The owner then started cutting up the wiring harness to modify it, this after removing and reinstalling the engine several times. Finally, he dropped the flywheel assembly on himself and bent several CPS tabs. After driving the car 500 miles in 4 years, spending a kilogram of Benjamins, and getting hurt, he sold it,disassembled,to me.
It has a bad oil cooler. $30.
But the oil-water emulsion is like pancake batter. No, you can’t get it out with Dawn, Tide, etc.
Looks like I’ll have to take the engine out, pull off the heads, rinse the goo out of the water jackets, pressure test the heads, and reassemble it.
Anybody have an engine yoke for sale?
Do your wiring system analysis in detail before you spend money.

Oops, just reread Rpetrecz’s post : installing a 2001 in a 2000, not a 2004 in a 2001. Yep, bet he encountered the same issues my seller did. The key to an easy swap is to stay with same engine management system. 2001 to 2000 ought to be easy.

The previous owner did this not me. I work on these cars for a living and know better lol. But buying a running/driving 00 S for $4k was worth it all day long. Ive gotten it to where no one else could electrically and track the snot out of it till i can piece together an early 3.2 or just build something nicer.

As an update. The engine is out however the shop wants to hold it for 3 weeks while they finish up the engine swap. They dyno the car before removing engine it made 206hp. Shop said there was a stumble at idle/misfire and believe it was a vacuum leak. It is still for sale if anyone interested.
