Looking for Spare Tire (Doughnut) - 97 Boxster

			Hi folks,
Does anyone have a little red rim with tire laying around they don't need?

I forgot I was driving with a doughnut and blew the tire on a sharp turn
Don't care what condition it's in - just needs to hold enough air for an emergency.

Best,
Marty

This is a challenge. I too have a 97 and my spare was used a couple of times by POs when it wasn't fully inflated and the sidewall was damaged and it no longer holds air. A replacement tire cannot be sourced for it unless someone on this forum can point me in the right direction.
To the OP: Woody in Bastrop TX has a bunch of them for sale that he's salvaged from cars.

The problem is that the rubber is very old and brittle and it's dangerous to use.

The cost of a new one from Porsche is rather high. As I recall, they want $400 or something outrageous like that for it.

If you are driving through the Syracuse NY area I have one. If you are interested I'll check to make sure it still holds air.

Thanks Jay.... I have AAA Premier - will drive to TX w/o spare to pick up.

Plan is to ship Boxster to vacation home in MX from TX - no AAA in vacation spot

This is Woody. He has a boxster graveyard. It's both cool and sad, all at the same time.

I was just looking at that tire when you posted this reply. Thanks! I wasn't aware of the tire size.

I would be interested to find out as well as I am planning a long drive with my wife for our anniversary and don't want to get stuck on a national park away from civilization...

Ya know, that might not be such a bad thing ... I think I could take a break from the human race for awhile.

Humans wants to save your wonderful world, huh?

You get a feeling of whoever that might be, or ALL for that matter, it just don’t know how to do it nor where to begin?

I think I know exactly what you mean. I say, yup to National Park is going to work however rules are quite different there, careful.

This seems to be a common thread to dealing with break downs.
Travel with a credit card and cell phone, all is well.
Also how many tire shops will carry a tire that fits a Boxster and can not scratch the S!#& out of your expensive rims
This is reasonable if you have cell service when you break down and your near civilization
BUT Murphy's Law, No cell service, getting dark and it's raining and your out in the sticks (Where the Twisties live)
My spare is holding air but I also know that it's a 14 year old tire so when I have to use it how will it do.
I would love to replace it to actually have a reliable spare. I do carry 'Fix-a-Flat' and 12v air compressor just in case
This 125/80/17 maybe the ticket

I have spare wheels for $50 each and some of them have never been used. I've never seen any that show any signs of deterioration from age. They spend their time out of the elements and are made from a good grade of rubber. I wouldn't hesitate to use any of the ones I have. Ill take theses old ones over a new Chinese tire any day. I did have one spare tire that someone had replaced the tire with a Kumho brand. I don't remember the size but it was a inch or two bigger in diameter.
