Somebody out there has one for sale for $100 with one VIN left; I saw it the other day but do not remember where (Panjo?) - they called it a "Diagnostic" or some other variant of "Durametric", and also it was the secondary item in the ad. of course I can't find it again... sorry |

You need to be cautious when buying a used cable online, make sure it is the current version (second generation) and not the earlier version which could be a Chinese rip off. From Durametric's website:
"Durametric version 6 is only compatible with our 2nd generation cables. If you purchased your kit after February 2008, then you have a 2nd-generation cable.

If you aren't sure, check this list:

•Cables with a white, label-wrapped box in the middle of the wire are 1st-generation cables.
•Cables with the LED light on the OBDII connector can be either 1st- or 2nd-generation.
◦If the cable has the LED light on the side of the connector housing that reads "Durametric," then it is a 2nd-generation interface cable and it is compatible.
◦If the cable has the LED light on the side of the connector housing that reads "Enthusiast" or "Professional," then it is a 1st-generation interface cable and not compatible."

Thanks jfp! I'll check this out. I emailed Duremetric and they said they do have one refurbished enthusiast cable left. They want $217 plus shipping. They did not say how many vins were left on it. Good to know though. Has anyone had a better experience running their dutametric on Windows 7 vs Windows 8? And is version 6 compatible with Windows 10?

Went ahead I picked up the refurbished kit from Durametric. I confirmed with then it has 3 vins left. $229 shipped. Just in case anyone else was curious. I did however grab the last refurbished one they had as of now. Now I need something with Windows on it. The gentleman that helped me said that based on feedback from some customers, it does seem to work with Windows 10. Good to know if I have to buy a new computer now.

My father actually has a Windows 8 laptop he's not using so I'm going to try that. Otherwise yeah, the prices on these computers came down a lot!

Durametric runs just fine under Windows 10.
