WTB: Litronics
 

Anybody have a pair of OEM Litronics they are looking to part with? I have a set of OEM halogens on my 04 S that I would like to replace.

If you think there are better options for me then please chime in. I like the look of the Litronics but there may be something better out there. Thanks for the help.

GT Projectors can be retrofitted into your current headlights. They look and perform better than Litronics. Period.
They'll also cost less.

Oh god I want this! I hate my Litronics. They are the worst Projectors I've come across, I've done tons of Retrofits, Figured these Projectors being on a Porsche would be worth a damn but they aren't. Stock Mazda's are nicer.

Any page with info on these?

Quality Porsche Parts prob has them cheaper than you'll find. People usually sell them for around a grand or more. Mine are mint and I had them for sale once just so I could upgrade to C4S headlights. Never sold.

I'd do the retrofit tho. You don't want these. They look ok, but not as nice as those retro's. And the light output sucks. Worst Projector I've used. Honda S2K Projectors blow them away. Mercedes blow them away.... hell everyone does.

They are stunning to look at and the light output is nothing short of amazing! :cool:

I need a good DIY. Since these headlights are like plastic welded together instead of rubber seal glued together like other headlights. I was thinking I would have to dremel cut them open to retrofit them. I need to re clear them since they didn't come out as perfect as that. But I gotta do this. I hate my Lits.

They are sealed together with silicone, no cutting needed.

Really, I've had my headlights out quite a lot and they sure look to be plastic welded together. Not Siliconed like most headlights. Which is why I haven't taken them apart yet. I've even googled trying to find people who have separated the Lits for upgrading the lens or modifying something to help with light output. Might just sell my headlights and pickup some halogens and do this.

Hell I'm gonna rip them apart! :D They look soo much more difficult than any other headlight I've done. I've dealt with a ton of Mitsubishi Eclipse (DSM) Headlights and Honda Civic Headlights. I've even sanded down the Glass Civic Headlights to do Projector Retrofits in. I have an account with TRS hehe. But the Lits going for like 1200 dollars I didn't wanna attempt it.

Nope. They are sealed together with tongue and groove + silicone. Check out the video ;)

Yeah IDK about attempting a retrofit on the Lits. I was hoping there were some sort of mods people were doing to them to get better visibility. Replacing lenses with different ones, spacing them differently. Something. But haven't found anything. Thanks man.

There was someone on rennlist (I think) that clear coated, then sanded the projector lens smooth. The OEM lens is actually a diffusing lens with circular grooves cut into it, giving it a dull and hazy beam pattern. Why? I have no idea. :confused:

Also, with Lits, you never get the full HID beam because half of it is permanently blocked. Lit high beams are just standard halogen, though the HID beam is tilted up slightly (still only half a beam, though).
You never get the full xenon light output like you do with bi-xenons.

YEah I know. I hate them. Its stupid. My old MoriMento Mini's were a ton better. I've done all I can to fully sand down and re clear the outside lens of the headlights to get the best quality. so the rest has to be the projectors.

Based on what I have read in the posts here, I am going to buy the GT projectors from Pelican Parts and do this myself. I love the look of these and they need to be on my 04 S. Thanks for all the inputs.

lol I don't blame ya. The Lits are ok because they are OEM. Honestly they are almost 20yo HID Projectors man. Technology back then wasn't what it is today. You'll see new Mazda Miata's with this insane supurb light output and you drive a porsche and it looks like something from a beat up ford. I seriously was behind a new Miata on the freeway but close and there was a high wall to our right. And I could clearly see the sharp cutoff of his Projectors and light output evenly about 160* in front of his car. My car was blury, could hardly see the cutoff line, and only got like 90* of beam. And wasn't as bright. I've replaced my bulbs with new bulbs, that helped, and cleared my headlights to almost new. Still not as clear as new but looks amazing.

I wanna sell my Headlights, pickup some crystal clear Halogens and do that retrofit now. I'll sell my entire Lit setup, harness and controls and all.

In the 90s they had this idea that one car shouldn't blind another. Nowadays, the DRLs on the new cadillac are FAR brighter than my high beams. And yeah remember that in 97, HID projectors were pretty new, now they're standard equipment on minivans.

Good stuff. Aftermarket with the look of OEM. A friend of mine put S2000 projectors in his Civic and the light output is so sharp its almost got a laser edge to it.

Yes, exactly which is why the 986 Projectors Fail. All Projectors are made with a blockoff plate on the inside that blocks ALL light from being projected a certain way. The light it does allow only goes so far. The whole reason for Projectors. You can have your headlights on pointing at a white wall, and above the cutoff, no light vs Halogen Reflector style. But with the 986 Lenses being designed like they were, they spread the light every which way bypassing the whole idea behind the cutoff plate.

And with proper alignment which is supposed to be done 20ft from the wall, the line is supposed to be 1ft shorter than the exact center of the headlight which has either a dot or lil line on the outter lens for measurement purposes. Thus making sure that light is evenly distributed throughout the ground but not pointing upward to oncoming traffic.

Projectors also have a step up on that cutoff plate so your right side will get more light than the left side (where oncoming traffic is in the USA)

Around 1999 the Honda S2000 was released. And in its time it was the car to get Projectors from, to do retrofits to other cars, due to its sharp cutoff and wide beam. Was one of the best. So age isn't an excuse for Porsche hehe.

Yeah, and Porsche is the only one to use both a fluted lens AND a plastic cover. A fluted lens that since its got no sunlight ought to stay clear, but its plastic, not glass, and I understand that weight was the reason for it, but designing it for a 35W bulb while all standard bulbs are 55W was just as bad an idea as used a sealed bearing inside a crankshaft.

The litronics are still a nice step up at least given how crappy the OEM headlights are. Ive seen a nearly new set and the cutoff and surprisingly sharp for a halogen bulb given its going through two plastic lenses.

Its not a Halogen Bulb tho. Its an HID Bulb inside of the Lit Headlights. And the Projector Lens is Plastic? I get the outside headlight lens is plastic, most cars are. BMW, Mercedes. But I didn't know the Projector lens was plastic. I don't get how that wouldn't melt. HID's aren't as hot as Halogen but they are still melting hot.

My headlights are pretty sharp now. After re clearing the outter lens. But I've put a lot of work into them to get them that way since they are plastic and yellowing. Lots of sanding, buffing and clear coat.

Lits have a glass projector lens ;)

Yeah I wouldn't understand plastic being soo close. Even cheap fog lights are glass.
