WTB: 00,01,02 Boxster S Motor 3.2L Engine

Forum Members & Dismantlers,

I need a used engine for my 00' 986 S.
Looking for 00-02 3.2L (or 996 3.4). A/C or no A/C is fine. Less than 75k mi.

Please let me know if you have something available. Thanks in advance!

I would like to install it in the spring, so no urgent time frame, but I'm ready to buy now.I follow the offerings from "qualityporscheparts" on eBay, which usually sell for 3k-6k shipped.

I would also be interested in springing for a 996 3.4L for the right price. Not interested in paying a premium for a rebuilt engine from an unknown builder, unless the price is right.

For those who are curious, my current engine has 100k miles and may have a cracked cylinder head after overheating.

The gem below needs the new motor:

Replace head?

I'm assuming when the engine overheated, then the head cracked, that you now have oil water intermix. Also, guessing that you caught the problem soon after it occurred and thus were able to shut the motor down before a complete meltdown. True? If so, would you then consider replacing the faulty head? Or do you think the there was collateral damage such as the crank bearings getting too hot too?

Are some of those re-builders you referred to buyers of engines in such a condition? If so, what could one expect to receive for such an engine?

Good luck in your search. Appreciate the dialog.
Thanks,
Joe

2001 Porsche Boxster S 3.2L engine 60k miles
I know this guy very well and have sold a lot of parts to him. He's selling the motor and installing a LS1 in his boxster. I've even seen the car in person and it seemed to sound/run good.

Xcellr, You got it. I found coolant in the oil after a very brief overheat . It ran fine after the . No damage at all other than the cracked head, and poorly lubricating oil thanks to glycol.
I don't really have the time/space to replace the cylinder head right now. And at that point it would be a shame not to do a full rebuild with 100k on it already. I'd rather the full swap at this point.

Good question on the value of the engine at this point. Plenty of places will accept it as a core on their rebuilt engines, but that doesn't say much about the value by itself.

Nova, thanks for the recommendation. That's a pretty good price.

Jake, can you give us a ballpark number that you would pay for an engine like winter has. Also, what exactly do call a core? With throttle body and exhaust manifolds for example?

I was emailing with Jake initially. He made me an offer for the entire vehicle, but I'm not sure what he would pay for the core if he needed one.
