Can I mount the subwoofer in a non-Bose sound installation?

I have 2 subwoofers

1 regular with storage, black color
1 bose with no storage, brown color

Both mounts at the same place and connect with the same wire

I have been considering this as well. The problem is, while normal car speakers have 4 Ohm impedance (industry standard), Bose speakers have very low impedance, like .5 Ohms. A standard amplifier will not be happy with that, and may even fail. This means that is is NOT simply "plug and play". While you might be thinking that putting a 4 Ohm resistor in series will fix it, it really won't. That solution will keep the amplifier happy but the sound output from the speaker will be poor.

The solution is to either replace the drivers in the Bose housing or replace the rest of the speakers and amplifier with Bose components. If you get to that point you might as well put in good aftermarket components.

I am a bit torn on this one. I like keep everything factory appearing, and would like the Bose rear enclosure, but to get it working properly would take a lot of work no matter which way I went. The simplest would be to use the standard rear storage box with speakers, which may work with the amplifier already in the car.
