Igntion switch - where is the spring?

Hi all,

Recently got a new fault on my '72 - when starting the car there is no 'spring' in the final position of the key turn, so the starter will stay running after the engine starts until I move the key back a bit.

So the crucial question is - is the spring mechanism in the electrical portion of the switch or the main body of the key barrel? I think it is ithe former- I have replaced it before but it was approx. 5 years ago.

Cheers
