F/S - 986 Hardtop, black

I'm selling my 986 hardtop. It's black. It is an early style hardtop with the ears. It's in good condition, and the rear defogger works fine. It comes with a Porsche storage bag, a wall mount (both pictured), and a dolly to move it around the floor (pictured). I think the dolly is from a Mercedes, but I can't be sure. That's what the guy who sold it to me told me. It works fine (the top fits and is absolutely stable on it), and two of the wheels have locks. It has a bit of rust on base legs and the paint is bubbling a bit. I haven't used it in two years, and the rust is new. Otherwise I would have touched it up myself. It is structurally sound though; only surface rust.

BTW, this hardtop is made of fiberglass.

Asking $800, which is what I paid for it. I thought I could get rid of it quick at a low price, but that didn't happen. Now, I'm willing to wait to sell it. I'm in the Chicago suburbs, and won't ship it. If you come and pick it up with a Boxster (with spinlocks), the dolly will fit in the front trunk. The wall mount disassembles. I'll have it all ready to fit in your Boxster when you come to get it.

yeah you're a 6hr drive for me but at that price its worth it. you priced it right for a 996 but 986 are more

Here's the deal guys. I'd really like to get rid of this by Saturday night. I'll take the best offer (by Thursday night at midnight) that can come get it on Friday or Saturday. PM me an offer if you want it and can come pick it up by Saturday night.

It's a steal at this price!

Incredible price!

I'd buy it just to resell, but I'm in socal. :(

What's a ballpark value for a 986 hardtop, ignoring shipping challenges?

steved0x 05-08-2014 11:40 AM

I've never seen a good one sell for less than $1000. Most for $1250 and above. And some pristine examples for closer to $2000, one on this forum recently I believe.

Well, I thought I needed to get rid of it quick, but that didn't happen. I found a way to store it and still get both cars in the garage. So now I'm willing to wait.

Price changed. I might take lower, but then again, maybe not. Make an offer if you're interested.

in my neck of the woods that would have been gone in 10 minutes. i wonder if some of the buyers got irritated by the price changes and the subsequent auction style.

Bring that thing to Dallas or to within 400 miles of Dallas and Ill buy it instantly as long as its in good shape both functionally and cosmetically and the rubber is nice.

Mike_Yi 05-10-2014 08:27 PM

Too bad I don't have a way to get it down there since I sold my car.

Had you been closer to Georgia I would have bought it first day cash in your hand. Just too far of a road trip. Good luck with the sale.

+1

I'll start the bidding at $37.50 :p :D :p

healthservices 05-11-2014 01:17 PM

$1000 is still a good price for the top if it is in good condition, I just won't drive across the country to get it now.

Who makes a fiberglass hardtop?
