F/S - 986 Hardtop, black
I'm selling my 986 hardtop. It's black. It is an early style hardtop with the ears. It's in good condition, and the rear defogger works fine. It comes with a Porsche storage bag, a wall mount (both pictured), and a dolly to move it around the floor (pictured). I think the dolly is from a Mercedes, but I can't be sure. That's what the guy who sold it to me told me. It works fine (the top fits and is absolutely stable on it), and two of the wheels have locks. It has a bit of rust on base legs and the paint is bubbling a bit. I haven't used it in two years, and the rust is new. Otherwise I would have touched it up myself. It is structurally sound though; only surface rust.
BTW, this hardtop is made of fiberglass. Asking $800, which is what I paid for it. I thought I could get rid of it quick at a low price, but that didn't happen. Now, I'm willing to wait to sell it. I'm in the Chicago suburbs, and won't ship it. If you come and pick it up with a Boxster (with spinlocks), the dolly will fit in the front trunk. The wall mount disassembles. I'll have it all ready to fit in your Boxster when you come to get it. http://www.yippee38.net/images/Boxster/Hardtop.png http://www.yippee38.net/images/Boxster/HardtopDolly.png |

yeah you're a 6hr drive for me but at that price its worth it. you priced it right for a 996 but 986 are more |
Here's the deal guys. I'd really like to get rid of this by Saturday night. I'll take the best offer (by Thursday night at midnight) that can come get it on Friday or Saturday. PM me an offer if you want it and can come pick it up by Saturday night.

It's a steal at this price!
|
Incredible price!
I'd buy it just to resell, but I'm in socal. :( |
What's a ballpark value for a 986 hardtop, ignoring shipping challenges?
|
I've never seen a good one sell for less than $1000. Most for $1250 and above. And some pristine examples for closer to $2000, one on this forum recently I believe.
|
Well, I thought I needed to get rid of it quick, but that didn't happen. I found a way to store it and still get both cars in the garage. So now I'm willing to wait.
Price changed. I might take lower, but then again, maybe not. Make an offer if you're interested. |
in my neck of the woods that would have been gone in 10 minutes. i wonder if some of the buyers got irritated by the price changes and the subsequent auction style.
Bring that thing to Dallas or to within 400 miles of Dallas and Ill buy it instantly as long as its in good shape both functionally and cosmetically and the rubber is nice. |
Too bad I don't have a way to get it down there since I sold my car.
|
Had you been closer to Georgia I would have bought it first day cash in your hand. Just too far of a road trip. Good luck with the sale.

I'll start the bidding at $37.50 :p :D :p |
$1000 is still a good price for the top if it is in good condition, I just won't drive across the country to get it now.

Who makes a fiberglass hardtop?
|
most of the fiberglass hardtops are made overseas.

But again, I can't be sure about any of it as I'm out of town. When I get back, I'll check the pictures to see if I remember correctly. Does anybody know of a way to test if the top is fiberglass or aluminum without damaging it? |
Heck I found a top at a local chicagoland car dealership, excellent condition and they wanted 1k for it. I posted about it and NOBODY WANTED IT!
lol |
I got mine from Loeber Porsche for 500$.
With the stand. couldn't belive it but hey, I got a hardtop. |
Looking at the picture from when I had the top apart, I can't see anything that makes me think this is aluminum or fiberglass. If it's not a Porsche top though, it's a very good reproduction, as it's fully decked out with the headliner and all that.
I've changed my mind on the price again. I've decided to sell it for $800. That's what I paid for it, so that's really all I want out of it. I don't need to make a profit on it. |
Am I missing something, there are no pictures of the top itself. This would surely help sell it right?

Yeah. It's planned. Need garage space to do it though.

Boxster hardtop
Hi again! Would you post some photos of the top with the cover removed please? Is the paint color solid black or metallic black ('black pearl')? Do you know the paint color code for the top, or the car it was matched to? The color code can be found on a paper sticker stuck on the underside of the front compartment cover. Thanks!
|
I took some pictures yesterday, but haven't gotten them posted yet. I will post them tonight hopefully.
The top is painted to match a '99 Boxster in plain black. It's not metallic. I do not have a paint code because the top was painted to match my car. When I bought it was red. When I took the top out of the cover, I discovered a couple of chips in the paint. The first ones I remembered. They are on the right "ear" (plastic cover of the adjusting bolts). I don't think those are a big deal because they snap off and can easily be repainted. However, I had forgotten that there are a couple (2) of paint chips on the driver's side lip around the door window. Since these are on the top itself, these are kind of a big deal, since they show the red paint underneath. I will post those pictures asap. |
Here are some pictures. Sorry about the quality. It's a new camera. I can't figure out what the camera is using to focus on as you can see that some of these are out of focus. The top is dirty in all of these pictures. The car was sitting in the garage and the buyer had it picked up in the middle of this past winter. I couldn't wash it because of the cold, so I had to put it away dirty.
You can see on the shots I marked where the paint is chipped. On the one, it looks like there are two orange scuffs on the paint, but that is just a reflection from my car. If anybody is interested and has any questions, or would like to see full-res of these images, let me know. I want any potential buyers to know exactly what kind of condition this roof is in (which is quite good except for those chips). http://yippee38.net/images/Boxster/Top/1.png http://yippee38.net/images/Boxster/Top/2.png http://yippee38.net/images/Boxster/Top/3.png http://yippee38.net/images/Boxster/Top/4.png http://yippee38.net/images/Boxster/Top/5.png http://yippee38.net/images/Boxster/Top/6.png http://yippee38.net/images/Boxster/Top/7.png I'll try to get the top clean and get some better pictures maybe tomorrow. |
