IIRC it was $500 plus or minus a couple of bucks. |
Che, are you still offering the muffler at the member price of $275?
|
Time for me to "ring in" on the Cat Back and Bypass pipes I got from Top Speed.
They are an excellent combo! I am budget-minded and these pipes deliver AWESOME SOUND at a great, almost unbeatable, price point! We introduced John and Top Speed to the North Texas Boxster Enthusiasts (or maybe the other way around) and he sold out of these quickly! Sorry guys! Now that he has them back in stock they are a MUST BUY if you were even thinking about upgrading. I DID notice better sound AFTER they were broken in around a tank of gas later but you will be driving with the top down and the stereo OFF to hear that exciting exhaust note! BTW, did I mention they also add a few horses too! Have had mine installed and am LOVING THEM! Thanks to John and all the people at Top Speed Performance for hosting the NTBE meeting there! We will see you soon, on the road or at the track. You will KNOW it's us by the sound, it is LUSCIOUS! Did I mention they shaved 20 lbs. of "boat anchor" and add more horsepower! It's a no-brainer! What else do you have John? I'm thinking about headers, GT3 seats, or an intake? Hmmm Boxster on people! |
I'll chime in as well. I HAD a drone at first like others have mentioned. I wasn't happy. I continued to drive it to "break" it in but tried to figure out what was going on. I also have the bypass pipes and the included clamps with the pipes were not sealing very well. Started a search and ended up with some clamps that both seal the joint but also add some mass. The result, no drone:D Much happier now!

Also as an FYI for those having a drone or a "boom". You definitely have an exhaust leak on the slip fits somewhere. I put one on two days ago, drove to work and back, that "boom/drone" was there on the highway. Came home and sure enough, two of the slip fits had loosened up. Spent an hour or so under the car adjusting, tightening, adjusting, tightening to the point I had zero leaks. Now the exhaust sounds excellent. Little louder on the highway, but nothing the radio won't drown out (even at normal volume). Did get to take it under a tunnel, and holycrap that sounds good.
Next up is the secondary cat delete! :D |
FexEx is delivering mine today!!
|
For muffler only, is bumper removal required?
|
Nope, I did mine without the bumper removed. Just need a 13mm wrench to get the top two nuts (attaching to a stud on the exhaust).
Life will be much easier if you can get the C-pipes on the side off, but mine were on there good. Somehow still managed to wrestle the muffler down off the car after playing with some angles. When you put all the slip fits back on. Start up the car and get under there with your hand and feel for any leaks, keep adjusting the location of both the pipe and the clamp itself until the leak is gone. You WILL notice a leak, even if its a small one. |
Yep, any leak will give a drone. If you do the cat delete pipes, I highly recommend the clamps that I got.
|
Would a muffler sealant or strip of gasket help fit the seal? 13mm ratchet is the only tool I need? Swivel socket? Deep socket?
|

For the C pipes, you won't need sealant or a gasket, just takes some fiddling to get it right. |
I have studied that.
|
So you can see that you will need a 15mm and I would recommend a 13mm deep socket. Makes life easier. I also used some open ratchets as well. Harbor Freight is your friend:D
|
Regarding the C-pipes as well. I found that shoving them as deep as possible won't seal up anything. Really does need to be tinkered with to find that "sweet spot".
I hate slip joints with a passion. |
Installation complete! Everything lined up perfectly. Getting the old "boat anchor" out was a beeotch though. The new one went in like a virgin on prom night. Thanks Che.
I have only warmed it up then driven home 2 miles home from the garage. Does it break in and get more mellow after awhile? I'm asking because I had done the 'ol drill in through the tailpipe mod and my stock sounded louder. I do notice a small bit of fiberglass coming out though already. |
Yes, it does take some break in, at least 100 miles. I still get some fiberglass. Good excuse to go drive:D Glad you got it in with no problems:cheers:
|
Minimal problems...no blood though. I must have done something wrong.
|
Okay...this may be a stupid question but, how do I start a thread on here?
|
Go to the area that you want to start a thread such as "General Discussions" and under Forum Tools you will see "Post a New Thread" from the drop down menu.

Pm sent...
