If i ever have to use magnetic numbers, im sure ill have that issue cause while the bodyshop guy pulled out as much door dings as he could.. he had to use alittle bondo here and there, I think you should make smaller numbers.

Did you ever do a PPI? if so did body work ever appear?

Try lightly tapping the area in question with a head of a screw driver and see if you hear a difference as you tap along the surface... if the noise echo becames more deep, then could be a spot of bondo in there.
