Needless to say.. I say go for it, but don't be suprised if the "install estimate" changes before all is done. I also wonder what kind of wreck the car was in to ensure there wasn't damage to the engine/trans to begin with.

very true, before any work is done I would draft up an agreement between you and the shop saying that they will cap all costs at $12K for all services related to this project. If additional parts are needed you will pay for those parts but not the service and you have the right to supply your own parts. They have some cheap lawyer in a box software available.
