Since we overpsychoanalyze things here...
To me the whole "waiving thing" is more of like an actual physical expression of one another driver who shares the same feeling with me. I do not think he or she does it because they think "oh look we both have porsches cool!!!!", I see it more of the lines "Yeap, I've been there too."
I do not find anything wrong to it, I do not consider him a complete stranger either as that feeling is enough for me to relate. Technically, he is still a stranger but not as much as the person walking next to you when you walk downtown.
I dont usually waive but I might, depending on the mood of course. If they do waive at me and I see it I will waive back.
I dont quite see the need to argue (*cough* MNBoxster and Bavarian Motorist*cough*) about a literally less than one second interaction.
MNBoxster, each one of us here I believe chose the corresponding car just for themselves and not because of a community or a forum. However, just like sports teams when you support one (read Porsche) you are part of it. You might not want to be but you are. Please, if you tell me you dont feel you are, well there is nothing you can do about it because you cannot control that stranger across you that waives at you because he or she thinks that you are part of it. What you can do and you seem to do it is really just not waive. What I am trying to say is that I wouldn't blame others for doing it and especially just because you dont feel this "team-spirit" they should not.
They could give you the same engine and handling and Yugo badge but that won't happen. Afterall, it is missing the Porsche badge.
