My car operates at aprrox 185-190 degrees regardless of the outside temp which makes me wonder if changing viscosity due to outside air temp is all that important. I do occasionally drive in 40 degree weather just to stretch the car's legs in the winter. If my car runs at 185 degrees in the winter just like in the summer, why would using 15w 50 not be a good idea in the winter? Also, what is the recammended temp range for 0w40? If there is such a thing.
