Speaking from recent experience, you can knock out the brake pads in probably less than two hours. I replaced all four pairs on my car recently, jacking one corner at a time, and it took about two hours. It was really easy...

... but I would suggest getting some of those blue rubber gloves. Brake dust will get all over your hands and under your fingernails, and it'll take a week to wash out!

The trans fluid might be a little tricky, but if you have the right tools, it won't be so bad.
