1. By the looks of it, it won't be a direct fit. So buy it and let us know what you need to do to make it work ;-)
2. The OEM 986 shifter is quite rubbish, so in any sense the 981 should be better. I have upgraded from 986 to 987 (which is a direct fit) and that is a significant upgrade. Also there are aftermarket parts for the 986 and 987 shifters to make them a lot better than what Porsche wanted to give us.
