The enthusiast license version only allows you to use it on 2 or 3 different VINs. If you buy one used, and the 3 VINs are used up, you can contact Durametric to have them reset the license back to 0, but I believe they will only do this once per license key. This is the actual response I got from them:

To determine whether we can clear the VINs of that Enthusiast cable free of charge, connect the cable to the computer (no car necessary), open Durametric, and send to us a picture of the Tools --> Tool Information screen. We can provide more details upon receipt of the picture.
