Who has installed new shift cables? Did they help?

Like many of us I am trying to eliminate slop in my shifting. So far I have done the following

- new motor mount - helped clutch engagement not shifting
- new oem style transmission mounts with poly filled voids - helped clutch feel and responsiveness not shifting
- New oem transmission fluid - no change
- new 997 shifter - just replaced with a Ben auto design short shifter and side lever and now better, but still some cable slop.

My black shift cable deflects a bit when shifting and you can see it move in front of and behind the clip holding it on the shift console. At the transmission side both cups/connectors are a little floppy side to side but not in the direction of pull. I tried installing rennline security clips, but they don’t fit (checking with customer service).

Has anyone installed a new set of oem cables and seen improvement? Should I skip the oem ones and just do numeric racing cables? Or should I just learn to live with it??
