Randon door locking problem - Durametric?

Hi all ... for the past year or so I've been having an infuriating problem with my 2002 Boxster S (6 sp. man) where the door locks will randomly engage, but when I push the unlock side of the rocker switch the locks immediately re-engage and I get two beeps from the alarm system. This plays-out the same either while parked or in the middle of driving. But here's the bizarre thing: this only happens when the outside temp is above or around 75 deg F ... if I'm diving it around on a cool day I'll never see it, in the summer it happens pretty much without fail (I'm in Colorado, and we get some pretty wide daily temp swings, especially at this time of the year). I've seen a handful of threads on this describing a similar problem, with the solutions ranging anywhere from a bad rocker switch to a bad ignition switch to a bad door latch to a bad door wire harness to a failing ECU...

So to minimize the guesswork, I'm considering buying a Durametric tool. I know this is a good thing to have anyway, but I want to make sure it can read the appropriate codes to help solve this particular problem before I drop ~$300 on it. So my question: have any of you experienced a similar problem, and if so did the Durametric (or something similar for less $$$?) help you with the diagnosis? Thanks!
