Thanks for the info, good to know it doesn't just fall into place and I did finally get it. I could feel it touching something but when you're sitting where the engine is and pressing this box against the car body and nothing seems to be happening and it's impossible to see much, it is frustrating.
But the impediment to airbox happiness for me was the plastic holder for the hydraulic lines that run against the body and behind the airbox. I removed that holder and the box went in with 2 bolts. It looks like the 3rd bolt, the upper left, might go in with a longer bolt and maybe a spacer but like you said, it's not needed. The connecting flange still hits the back body wall and I haven't tried to see if the 987 MAF tube will connect at the flange and clear the body so I guess I should check to see if that's possible. Otherwise, the flange will have to come off and silicone tubes and connectors will be used.
Newsguy, what did you use after the airbox? Are you using the 986 or 987 MAF tube?
