I have had a differential seal leak which seems like what you have, and that is not related to the transmission fluid. That is gear oil essentially with the location to top it off in the pic above. I found a good write up somewhere, but was a fairly simple install. When you remove it you will lose all of the differential fluid, and can refill when you are done. Getting the CV axle out can be a challenge, but is a little easier on that side. I used it as an excuse to remove it and rebuild the axle bearing and replace the boots which is a messy job. Also be careful removing the differential fill bolt, I think I stripped mine and had to use an easy out to get it off, and actually replaced it with an oil drain bolt I got from a local auto parts store. When replacing it and the CV bolts, clean them and use blue loctite. A CV axle coming loose can cause some damage, and torque them appropriately with new bolts if possible.
