I dyed the leather black. The dye requires application of several light coats. I allowed about an hour for each coat to dry.

Coverage by the first coat is minimal:

The third coat provides almost complete coverage:



I also removed the leather trim from my existing handle. Although it was already black, I applied dye because it had faded from years of sun exposure. I wanted to ensure an exact match.



Finished product - I applied 4 coats of dye to the assembly and 2 coats on the trim piece:



I will allow the dye to cure overnight and install it in the car tomorrow.
