I haven't been too plugged in on hardtop prices, but I would say the average price is around $1200, in a range of $900-1800 depending on the color and condition. I paid $850 12+ years ago for my color. That said, they don't make them anymore, there are fewer and fewer every year, and just like all Porsches they will cost more over time. $3k is way too expensive, even $2k is too much in my opinion.
I would look locally, and on the classifieds here and other Porsche forums. eBay is not the place to try and buy a hardtop. And this is probably the worst time of the year to look, since it just started to get cold. I can't imagine there are many hardtop in Florida, so you need to be willing to spend a weekend driving to pick it up, just install spinlocks before you go. Good luck with the search!
