Mechanically speaking, when determining how much thread should penetrate the hub, I like to see about 1.5 times the "width" of the fastener. I think an engineer told me about this once.... but I might be making that up. Haha.
If you're buying quality spacers, they'll have a lug- length recommendation for you.
