Climate control display & Armor All

Ever since I bought my Boxster a couple of years ago it's bothered me that the climate control display had what appeared to be a yellow mountain range across it's bottom. That alone was enough to make me want to replace it but when a segment of the LCD on the temp display stopped working it made me stop procrastinating and actually install the new display that I had already purchased. The new display came with good instructions and installing it was a fairly simple and straight forward project.

Here's the interesting bit. The display is a sandwich with glass on the front & back sides with the LCD and black film in the middle. When I removed the old display I noticed that it's lower edge was sitting in a puddle of liquid that appeared to be Armor All. Closer inspection shows that this liquid had wicked between the layers of glass and was apparently dissolving the black film! Obviously, I cleaned the Armor All puddle away before installing the new display and all works and looks as it should now.

-SO- That's my cautionary tale about the dangers of spraying too much stuff on the face of the climate control display!

cheers - dj
