There are a few tell-tale signs the MM is done, one is simply vibration usually around 3k. The other is a distinct clunk or thump when aggressively shifting, (or any shifting if it’s completely shot). Generally, if the MM is still stock it’s pretty much toast most likely. The rubber is subject to high heat and age, and it’s not the most robust insert to begin with. The 987 MM is a good upgrade. My insert literally fell out of the mount @57k after removal. My car is a 2002s...
