Thanks for the replies. I used Zimmerman coated rotors and Hawk HPS pads. There is only a slight noise when actually pressing the brakes hard and I would have thought it was the pads (or rotors) initially wearing off something. The wheels spun freely with no noise in the air and I was careful not to damage the shields once how saw how close they were to the rotor.

I will bed them today and see how the sound is. As mentioned, this is the first time I have done brakes or rotors and it seems normal but I wanted to ask a more seasoned group.

In one post, I had read someone put them in backwards so I was pretty careful but luckily the rims on the '04 SE are so open I can double check that without taken the wheel off.
