The keyfobs don't go to sleep. It's the car electronic that falls into sleeping mode after 120 hours. That means the keyfob receiver (immobilizer) in the car gets turned off.

You can't get the car out of sleeping mode by opening the door via the doorlock. You have to turn on the ignition to reactivate the immobilizer. Than the keyfobs will work again.
