Not the same.
5-speed (2.5L) axle in 2000 S (3.2L) hub:
5-speed axle is shorter, but fits in the hub.
Transmission end. 5-speed vs 6 speed stub (2000 S on left 5-speed on right):
The axle mount to the transmission is different diameter and design.
