We had a great little 986. Then I wrecked it in December. In January we got a newer 986 Boxster S. It's a low-mile car that has been well taken care of and I love it. We also considered 987, but for the price difference it just didn't make sense for us. There's nothing wrong with the way the 986 drives / handles. It doesn't have all the latest tech, but that's (A) not something that bothers me and (B) isn't something a 987 would fix.
I suppose it all depends on what you're after. I like the car, like the dynamics it provides, and it just doesn't cost a whole lot to buy or own.
