It seems to me that in the end, torque and power delivered to the wheels is really the only thing that is important unless one is planning a major drivetrain change. Horsepower at the flywheel is more important to the marketers than in the real world.
Oh yes, and I did get that bloody airbox out! Fun fun fun!
