Welcome! The Sensor is not a MAP Sensor (That's Manifold Absolute Pressure). This Sensor sends pressure information to the engine's electronic control unit (ECU, or DME in Porsche Parlance). This extrapolates the air density and determines the engine's air mass flow rate, which in turn is used to calculate the appropriate fuel flow.
But, the Boxster uses a MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor), which instead of living in the Manifold measuring pressure, it lives in the Intake stream and extrapolates the air mass entering the engine by using a heated, conductive foil (think Mylar) which loses an amount of heat (and therefore a change in electrical resistance), which is proportional to the amount of air flowing past it.
While they both do essentially the same thing, they go about it in very different ways, and the MAF tends to be the more accurate of the two.
This is a common problem with the Boxster and there have been many threads regarding servicing this component. It's wise to first try to clean it, which often takes care of the problem, at least for a while. Sometimes, this won't work and replacement will be required.
If left unattended, eventually you'll experience hard starting and very poor performance and MPG. Use the search function for MAF Sensor and a number of threads will pop up. This has all been discussed many, many times before. Good Luck!...
