I wanted to thank everyone here for all the fantastic guidance and assistance over the past couple of years in my adventure with my 2000 986 base. She was a fantastic little car, and, as it turned out, a gateway drug for additional P-car ownership.
With my wife semi-retired, and with me now working mostly from home, we decided it was pointless for us to continue to have three cars in our stable. The 986 was mostly for fun, as my wife drives a Macan S (trip car and winter car), and I had a Corolla (grocery getter). To be honest, we didn't really drive the 986 all that much, as the traffic congestion where we live is just miserable, and with the 986 being a 5 speed, it was just really hard on both the car and driver.
So, last weekend we paid a visit to our local stealership and, lo and behold, they had just taken in a 2013 981 with PDK on trade (4,700 miles!) and we instantly fell in love. The Toyota went to the auction block and one of the P-car techs bought our 986 on the spot. We picked up the car yesterday, and boy is she a hoot.
That said, this is no 986 -- it is a completely different animal. Where the 986 is raw and visceral, this car is luxurious. It is loaded with creature comforts -- heated and ventilated 14-way adjustable seats, navigation, full leather, sport chrono package, etc. You are well insulated from the road, but when your right foot gets heavy, there's no doubt you have a wailing monster behind your seat. I thought I would miss rowing the gears, but not with PDK. There is no way on earth that I could possibly match the performance of that transmission with a clutch and shifter. It's that good.
Anyway, thanks again for all the help! This is truly a fantastic group of people, and I'll make sure to check in from time to time to say hello.
