More to the point, if you end up needing spacers, you've altered the wheel base which means, major adjustments to caster/camber settings and may result in early bushing/shock/strut failures.

Spacers won't alter the camber  or caster setting and there is no caster adjustment anyway 
Don't know what kind of spacers you are referring to that flex?? 
Effect handling, sure a little, tire wear, I'm  not so sure
