Lots of automatics don't allow a change to drive unless the brake is pressed to show a driver is present. Safety reasons. Leave a car running and someone inadvertently bumps the gearshift and you have potentially big problems. I recall from my TIP cars that there would be an issue if the combination of steering wheel, brake and shift lever weren't aligned with the stars. Sometimes took some wiggling for the key to even go to the start position.

Are the rear light pods stock? Standard bulbs? And chance some rodent was around the car? I recall selling the pods to people who had faults in the circuit board on the taillights.
