I run 225/45-17 and 255/40-17 without any problems
As far as speedo, well to my knowledge, all of our cars read a few MPH high anyway.
Most 225/45 and 255/40 are the same diameter 255/40 is the factory size so there shouldn't be any speedo change over factory
