Sounds like it's the water pump... either impeller blades striking the block from a failed bearing, or broken blades bouncing around in there...

1. FIRST, DO NOT run the engine again until you replace it.
2. While replacing the pump, check the aluminum block for impeller damage.
3. Make sure you can account for all the impeller blades. If any are missing, they could be lodged in the coolant passages in the heads, restricting flow, and causing a hot spot. That could result in a cracked head.
4. Replace the pump with an OEM pump. Pierburg = factory Porsche (feel free to pay more for one in a Porsche box if you really want to spend money).
5. Do not use a pump that has metal impeller blades.
