Boxster Road Trip

We recently went to our family reunion in Idaho. We started out by driving to Copalis Crossing, Washington where our middle Son, his wife and two of our grand children live. From there we went to Pocatello, Idaho where our youngest son, his wife and two of our grandchildren live. The oldest son, his wife and our newest grandson, who live here in Morro Bay, met us in Pocatello and we traveled together to the reunion in Ashton, Idaho from there.

During the travels we saw one of my wife’s old high school friends in Vancover, Washington and one of her cousin’s sons in The Dalles, Oregon. We spent one night at the family property in the mountains, 30 air miles from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Then visited with a friend of our oldest son in Park City, Utah and spent a night with a cousin (who can’t travel) in Mesquite, Nevada then on home.

We traveled 3400 miles, over 12, days on the trip. We drove my wife’s Boxster. We varied between 24 and 32 mpg, paid between $2.93.9 (in Utah) and 3.69.9 (in Cal.) for gas. Our longest day was 581 miles from The Dalles, OR to Pocatello, ID.

We thoroughly enjoyed open top driving north along the coast and in the mountains and were very thankful for A/C with the top up in the Utah, Nevada and California deserts. We did hit rain for a couple days driving through Oregon and Washington but had decent weather for the rest of the trip.

We were able to pack and carry enough clothes so that doing laundry en-route was not necessary. Gotta love the Boxster for that reason alone.

A last observation is that it is amazing how many drivers of Japanese sedans and pick-up trucks want to try to keep pace with a Boxster on twisty mountain roads.
