Several months ago, back in winter, I noticed that my heater was not producing very hot air. After some research I found a thread about the door inside the HVAC box that directs air toward or away from the heater core. I removed the door from inside the box and found that the door is actually made from thin sheet metal filled with large holes and the entire door covered in foam. The foam dried out and flaked off exposing the holes. The door could not separate cold air from hot air. I covered the door in thermal tape and reinstalled. Heat and air work fine.
